Google Shopping is made FREE for retailers
That's right! Google shopping tab is going to be set as free listings for retailers around the world. It mentioned in its blog that the first roll-out of this feature is going to be done in the US. Gradually it will roll out the feature globally.
If you are a retailer and have an online store using Shopify, woo-commerce, Bigcommerce, you need to connect your account to Google Merchant Center. Make sure when you connect the feed from your e-commerce platform to The Google Merchant Center you have all your products approved. You will see two notification checks - one at the e-commerce builder side, one at the GMC side. Then under "Growth", click on " Manage Programs" on the left navigation menu. You will find many programs listed. You need to enable "surfaces across Google".
You can also upload your product details directly in Google Merchant Center instead of doing it through a third-party account. You need to create a primary feed that requires filling out the Google sheet template, and this can be tedious. You need to update the SKUs based on availability. You can find details of product data you need to add from the guidelines.
Once these features are enabled, your products will start appearing on the google search shopping tab.
Few best practices to beat the competition in the shopping tab are to make sure your product description has the content where the specific keyword the user would search for is added. For example, if you are selling a piece of jewelry (ring), you can definitely talk about how beautiful it is and who designed it. But if you don't mention the ring, what material it is made of, it won't come up in the search. Make sure you have enough keywords which match the user search. However, take care not to go overboard in repeating the keywords. You need to balance both the language, tone, and Keywords. Your content should be easy to read, informative, and not something filled with keywords just for the sake of it.
This feature is only to show listings on the shopping page. If you still want to show your products on the search engine result page, you need to launch the Google Shopping campaign on Google Ads.
